Use this reference data to help understand WHY specific services can be applied to specific programs and HOW the budget will prioritise which funds to use in what order.


Funding Sources and Claiming Sequences

Each Funding Source has one or more Budgets Types in a "Claiming Sequence" list. The Claiming Sequence defines the order in which each budget will be used. When claiming from Services Australia, providers don't stipulate the exact budget, rather they select a funding source. The ultimate decision as to which budget is used is made by Services Australia.


## Selecting the correct funding source

There are several data points considered when deciding which funding source to use for a given service. Here's how it works:

As you can see in the list, Funding Sources have Classifications and Entry Categories.

If you open a Service in the list you can see they also have Classifications listed.

In order for a service to be eligible for a funding source, they need to share at least one Classification.

HOWEVER: Clients also have classifications, which are assigned to them as part of their registration and assessment process into Support At Home.

If you open a clients Support At Home dashboard you can see a list of classifications assigned to that client

So in order for a client to claim a service against a funding source, The service and the funding source and the clients profile must all have a classification that overlaps.

FURTHERMORE: Clients also have Entries, which you can see listed on their SAH dashboard, and these entries have a "category code" ie HM, AT etc

Funding Sources have Entry Categories as well, which you can see on the reference data page.

So in order to claim a service against a funding source, as well as the classifications check, we do a similar check that at least on of the the client's Entries overlap with the Funding Source's Entry Categories.

CareMaster also does one final check and only surfaces Funding Sources for which the client has a linked budget, and shows that in the Support edit form when you are building your support.

Even though this system appears confusing, the multiple overlaps allow for a wide configuration of funding sources and budgets across the service list.

When claiming you will also have a chance to update the funding source.
